Hyundai India is set to launch the 2017 Elantra in India on August 23 with dealerships accepting bookings for the vehicle in advance. In its sixth generation, the new Elantra made its global debut in South Korea and is already on sale in the US. The 2017 Elantra will replace the existing Elantra in India and will compete with the likes of Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis, Renault Fluence and Chevrolet Cruze. The new Elantra has grown up and is bigger than the current Elantra on sale in India. The new Elantra will measure 4610mm x 1800mm x 1450mm (LxWxH) as against 4530mm x 1775mm x 1470mm (LxWxH) dimensions of the current Elantra. Major changes on the outside include a new front grille, LED DRLs, new alloy wheels and wide LED tail lights. On the inside, expect the new Elantra to get an upmarket cabin loaded with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth telephony, AUX and USB connectivity.
Powering the Elantra will be the same petrol and diesel engines currently doing duty on the Elantra. However, a minor increase in power and fuel efficiency figures is expected. Rumours are rife that the new Elantra might get a 2.0-lt petrol engine as well making its way into India. It is safe to assume that the Elantra will be available with both manual and automatic transmissions.
As far as pricing is concerned, the new Elantra is expected to start from somewhere around Rs 14.00 lakh for the entry-level variant, going up to Rs 18-19 lakh for the fully loaded variant. Dealerships in India are accepting bookings for the Elantra at a nominal amount of Rs 25,000 which is completely refundable if one wishes to cancel the booking after the launch, a Hyundai dealership personnel told carsizzler.com on the condition of anonymity.
